Stimuli-responsive materials are synthetic materials that can respond to various types of applied stimuli, including heat, light, humidity, and more. These materials offer significant opportunities for the development of wireless-controlled small-scale soft robots. In this presentation, I will share our insights into the intelligent applications of light-driven micro robotics. Firstly, I will introduce different types of micro robots based on liquid crystal elastomer photomechanical actuators, which enable walking, swimming, and wind-assisted flying locomotion. Secondly, I will discuss the implementation of optical feedback to create self-regulating devices that closely mimic biological behaviors.

报告人简介

Dr. Hao Zeng is currently Finland Academy Research Fellow, PhD supervisor and leader of Light Robots Group from Tampere University (https://research.tuni.fi/lightrobots/). He obtained the Ph.D degree in photonics from Florence University in 2015. Then he carried out postdoctoral research in Finland (2016-2021). His research includes functional stimuli-responsive polymers, micro robotics and non-equilibrium active soft materials. He has published over 40 papers, with first/corresponding author publications in Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Matter (Cell Press), etc. In 2022, he has been awarded European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant of 1.5 million euros for his research on interactive materials and responsive micro robots.
