In this talk, following two recent findings will be introduced: The first part is about virtual impedance, which is commonly implemented in a static manner, typically neglecting the derivative term. In this part, fundamental issues associated with algebraic virtual impedance will be investigated, emphasizing its characteristics related to negative-sequence impedance. The second part presents an improved black-start method. During black start, abrupt voltage injection may drive the transformer core into saturation, limiting the ability to achieve fast and reliable start-up. To address this issue, a rapid soft start-up method is proposed, significantly shortening the start-up time.

Shenghui Cui (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree from Tsinghua University, in 2012, the M.S. degree from Seoul National University, in 2014, and the Dr.-Ing. degree from RWTH Aachen University, in 2019. From 2015 to 2021, he has been with the Institute for Power Generation and Storage Systems, E.ON Energy Research Center, RWTH Aachen University. Since 2021, he has been an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Seoul National University. His research interests include interaction of power systems and power converters and applications of wide-band gap power devices and cryogenic power electronics.
